Tuesday 16th August - 'Oven Ready', Southrepps Farmers Market and Beach Hut Competition

The strong winds the other week burnt the leaves on the Sycamore trees; brown and dry round the edges they are starting to fall. Those on the road, crunch beneath our feet and it seems strange to be sweeping and raking up leaves so early; after all it’s still summer! My chicken Beckie has been losing feathers from her neck and breast for a couple of months, new growth has been slow; I think she has been putting all her efforts into laying eggs rather than producing new feathers. Bald now to a point where Peter has been suggesting I knit her a scarf whereas; I have been considering re-naming her ‘Oven-Ready Beckie’ or is that too cruel?

A regular on our calendar is, the Southrepps Farmers Market. This is held on the second Sunday each month in Southrepps Village Hall, between 10.00 a.m. - 1.00 p.m. Mr Kew’s excellent pies are making me ‘lazy’ in the pie making department at home. Such good quality fillings and delicious pastry – can I be blamed? We could not resist a couple of pies and sausage rolls plus another of Sam Kew’s Lemon Cheesecakes and a pack of her Viennese Fingers. Added to these purchases were a couple of Rib Eye Steaks (Foxley Wood Angus Beef), Sausages (Ian Wright) and a Guinea Fowl (Barge Farm), oh and half a dozen eggs to supplement Beckie’s output (Cate is still off the lay!) The steaks, sausages and guinea fowl are all in the freezer, to be eaten at a later date.

Friday 19th August - Weekly Quiz, Red and Black Arrow, Jet-Ski's and Jaguar E-Types

Tuesday 30th August - Indifferent Bank Holiday, Signs of Autumn and High Seas and Tides
