Wednesday 21st December 2016 - Shortest Day, Final Preparations and A Happy Christmas

According to an App on my phone, yesterday was the shortest day. I have just checked this on Time and Date website which shows sunrise as 8.04 am and sunset as 3.42 pm on both 20th and 21st. However, there is a three second difference between the two days making today the shortest day. Over the next month the days will gradually lengthen and on the 21st January, we should have in the region of an extra fifty minutes of daylight. For someone like me, who does not enjoy the short days and long hours of darkness; this is definitely a move in the right direction.

These last few days before Christmas are all down to final preparations; shopping for food and drink, cutting foliage for indoor decoration, setting up the spare bedroom for our guests, food preparation etc. as well as helping at a village party. Over the holidays we will be Skyping (what an amazing invention this is) family who will not be with us and of course, we will be watching the Boxing Day Swim. By this time next week, after what feels like weeks of preparation Christmas will be over for another year. We tend not to do anything much for the New Year, spending it quietly together accompanied by more food and a glass or two!

All that’s left for me to do now is to wish everyone -

A Very Happy Christmas
