Monday 8th December 2014 - The Weekend, Cromer Christmas Tree Festival and Regional Frost

We had a very enjoyable weekend with our youngest son and his partner. Delayed at work they were a little late leaving on Friday evening, arriving here around 10.30 p.m. This is the time, when we are starting to flag and are generally ready for bed but their company revived us and we chatted until midnight. On Saturday we took advantage of the sunshine and walked along the beach into Cromer. Our first stop was at the dog friendly Red Lion for a sandwich lunch before continuing to St Peters and St Pauls Church, to see the display of Christmas Trees. I had no idea there would be so many trees as well as craft items for sale and there was an opportunity to vote for your favourite tree. With so many trees, all different, all of which had a lot of thought put into their decorations, this could have proven to be a difficult decision but for me, one in particular stole the show. Preparations in the town were underway for the turning on of the lights in the early evening and seasonal music was already being broadcast in Church Street. At the rear of the Hotel de Paris and in Garden Street there were plenty of stalls where some local cheeses and beer were purchased before dipping into Kew’s Pie and Mash Shop to buy some of Mr. Kew’s pies. In the evening we went to The White Horse to celebrate our son and his partner’s recent engagement. The dishes we ordered were well presented and delicious and as for my starter, which comprised of three different tasters, I was well impressed with the different flavours and the amount of time it must have taken to serve them in such an appetising fashion. It drizzled most of Sunday morning so we stayed in and after lunch it was time to say farewell to our son and his partner/fiancée as they headed off home, making the most of the remaining hours of light for the start of their journey home.
