The first day of December and it’s time to start Advent calendars. I may be considered too old for a calendar which for children, heralds the countdown to Christmas but I have an on-line calendar which is a perk for re-subscribing to Jacquie Lawson’s e-cards. The calendar scene for today is a family group leaving their beach hut along with their dog for a dip in the sea. Well, anyone taking the plunge here into the North Sea today would have to be well and truly out of their minds! It’s way too cold for such pursuits. This morning, I tried to take a photograph of the sea on my phone but with the wind buffeting me and no stabilisation on the camera; the shots were out of focus. It was calmer but still quite windy this afternoon and I had greater success photographing with my main camera, which does have stabilisation.

All in all, the past few days have been pretty miserable, starting with winds followed by rain, hail and sleet. The daytime temperatures have been between 6-8ºC but allowing for the wind chill factor, yesterday it was -11ºC; not at all

Sunday started dull with a misting drizzle. I began the day by writing Christmas cards before walking across to the Christmas Market at the Garden Centre. Once again, there was a good selection of items including food, decorations and presents plus there were a couple of owls from a centre; you could hold them for a donation to the centre’s charity. I have been looking for a fairy for the top of our tree for some years. I spotted and purchased, not exactly a fairy but a ballerina which will do nicely instead.
