Overstrand Life - Janet's Diaries

February 16th - 28th 2018

Friday 16th February 2018 - Donating Profits, Caterpillar, Wading and Must be Feeling Better

I sent two cheques off this week for £125 each to The British Heart Foundation and Cancer Research UK. This now brings the total I have donated to these two charities, from the profits on the sales of my books, to £500.

Peter spotted a green caterpillar in the bottom of the door frame of our storm porch on Wednesday. I am pretty sure this is a speckled wood as this is the only caterpillar in the British Isles that can pass through winter either as a caterpillar or as a pupa. It is now in our shed, where I will keep an eye on it and hope it will finally emerge as a butterfly.

Saturday 24th February 2018 - WI. Cold Easterly and The Strand Club

On Thursday afternoon, when we were walking Barney, there was an opportunity to take a photograph with the sun on the beach huts. As they are facing, more or less north, usually the only time when the sun’s rays highlight them is as it rises but rarely during the day. Our walk on the beach this morning was very cold. An easterly wind has built, the top half of the beach is strewn with flints and as a result, we did not walk far before turning round. With the wind full in our faces as we returned, our eyes streamed and I lost the feeling in my fingers. More weather like this is set to be with us over the weekend with the possibility of snow early next week; just when we thought the temperatures would start rising.

I knew little about Harriet Martineau until I read The Strand Club’s report for their February meeting. She was obviously a lady of many talents and interest. If you would like to read more, click on this link.
