There are some key points arising from the Parish Council Meeting on Wednesday evening that bear mentioning here:-

• In response to complaints about lack of repairs to the damage inflicted by The Storm in December 2013, Brian Farrow from NNDC has confirmed repairs will be completed in Overstrand this spring.

• Expenditure of £650 was approved for equipping the phone box in Harbord Road with information pertaining to geological structure, tidal drift and other coastal matters in Overstrand, plus a Nature Watch board

• Tim Bennett was awarded a grant of £500 for a book project covering 1914-18 (First World War) history.

Friday 13th February 2015 - Special Offer, Friends of Overstrand & Cromer Community First Responders and The Strand Club

Just realised what today is – Friday 13th! It’s supposed to be unlucky but not so for us; we were lucky to find that there was still some of the special offer Rump Steak at the Mundesley Butchers. Mentioned earlier in the week on their Facebook page, I imagined that such a good deal (normally £17 per kilo, now £8.50 which is equivalent to 1lb of steak for £5) would be sold out by Friday. Not quite but almost sold out and I daresay by now, a definite sell out. The shop is much more than a Butchers; it has a delicatessen counter, sells bread, pies (sweet and savoury), quiches, eggs, pickles, meat rubs, stuffing, filled rolls, sauces, ready cooked dishes etc. Run by the Craske family it complements the other shops in the village (Chemists, Post Office, Convenience Stores, Florist, Hardware store, Dress Shop, Fish Stall, Gift and card shop, Cafes, Take-aways, Bakery etc.) and I don’t imagine local residents need to stray far for their everyday needs. We returned home with Fish, Vegetables and meat for the week plus just over a kilo of Steak which I will cut up into, pieces to fry and eat with jacket potatoes and all the trimmings, some to make a Beef Stroganoff and the rest I plan to cook with onions and bake a tasty Steak and Onion Pie.
