Overstrand Life - Janet's Diaries

My Diaries

January - June 2014

A New Year, a time to reflect on 2013 and consider the year ahead.
For 2014, I consider there are two topics that dominate.

Firstly, the speeding problem on both the Cromer and Mundesley Roads.
For some time it was considered there was not a problem;
although you only had to stand on the side of these roads to
appreciate this was just nonsense.
However, during the course of 2013 and particularly after the speed survey in July
this is now recognised as an area of concern and the Police
have been operating speedtraps and issuing penalties when appropriate.

The second is the aftermath of The Storm on the evening of 5th December.
This has left areas of all types of debris imaginable, making our beach unsightly.
We are concerned about the amount of plastics, a marine pollutant,
and have been removing these items on an ongoing basis.
There is also the concrete and rock armour that have been deposited
on the beach. Most of this is now under a good layer of sand,
recently deposited by the tides but our beach can and
does change from day to day and it will only be a matter of time
before these are revealed again.

I hope that by the end of this year both the above will have been furthered resulting in
reduced vehicle speeds and a safer debris free beach.
