Overstrand Life - Janet's Diaries

June 16th - 30th 2012

Saturday 16th June - Windy Walks and Two Websites of Interest

Wednesday 27th June - Rain followed by a Taste of Summer

On Thursday evening villagers, who opened their gardens on the 17th June, congregated at the Sports Pavilion along with the event organisers, to present a cheque to Jessica Hissocks, from the Quidenham Children’s Hospice. Co-ordinator, Mrs Jacquie Lloyd thanked everyone who had been involved with the day from those who sold tickets to those who made the tea and of course the gardeners too. Jessica accepted a cheque for £5286.80 before she too thanked everyone; this has been the largest donation they have received for an Open Gardens Event. I hope our village will be an inspiration to others, demonstrating what can be achieved when a community unites and volunteers work as a team.

The funeral of James (Jim) Hastings took place on Friday morning at St. Martins Church. Jim’s first visit to Overstrand was not planned; he came here at the end of the Second World War to convalesce at Overstrand Hall and like so many who come to Overstrand; Jim fell in love with the village. For some years Jim and his wife Vivienne had a holiday home here and then more recently they moved to the village. Over the years, they both made good friends and like so many were just happy to be here. A difficult time for Vivienne but we hope she will soon be back socialising in the community and as she has always done, bringing smiles and laughter to all she meets.
