A brisk wind on Saturday threatened our Broad Bean plants; blowing them about. Rather than let their roots rock in the soil and risk the stems bending we bought some windbreak from Overstrand Garden Centre. Needless to say, almost as soon as Peter had erected this, the wind died down! It looks as though we will have a good crop of soft fruit this year. The blackcurrant bush has concentrated on foliage but the redcurrant, gooseberry and raspberry canes are full with developing fruit.

Lidl opened its new supermarket on the Holt Road in Cromer last Thursday. We decided to wait until this week, allowing the initial interest to die down, before paying the store a visit. Whether or not Cromer needs another supermarket in addition to the Co-Op, Morrisons, Iceland and Budgens is debatable. However, we found the store bright, clean, well lit and airy with good selections of pretty well everything you would expect from a supermarket. Just one problem; there are only sixty five parking places which I hear has led to shoppers parking in Homebase and the Co-Op. Having a Lidl closer to home, will save us a drive to North Walsham to stock up on particular items we like such as their Greek yoghurt, honey and at the risk of sounding really ‘sad’ their sponge scourers!
