Overstrand Life - Janet's Diaries

June 16th - 30th 2015

Wednesday 17th June 2015 - Broadband Again, Overnight Sleeping, Elderflowers and Butterflies

There was a song I remember hearing as a child titled ‘The Gas Man Cometh’. It was sung by Flanders and Swann and related a story of how the gas man called on a Monday morning and how he had to remove the skirting boards, so on the Tuesday morning the carpenter came to call but he nailed thought a cable resulting in the electrician calling on the Wednesday. The week progressed in the same manner until the following Monday when the gas man came to call again. Well the continuing saga with our Broadband speeds is something like this. We are going round in circles and this is quite simply because our provider refuses to accept that the fault lies with them. After another visit from an Openreach engineer on Monday afternoon, the conclusion was the same as the previous engineers – the problem lies with our provider. It is almost as though the call centre personnel have been programmed to refuse to accept that anything could be wrong at their end. Peter has now written to our provider’s CEO with a copy to Openreach and Ofcom. If our provider is not prepared to remedy the situation in Overstrand then they should contact us to explain and arrange to transfer us to another provider and not leave us going round and round in circles.

When we walked out with Barney yesterday morning we saw two new notices fixed on the fence at the back of the car park in Pauls Lane. They state ‘Please note. No overnight sleeping or camping on this car park.’ This is in response to my email to NNDC and our District Councillor last week. I am delighted that they have taken on board my concerns and reacted so quickly. I have since received an email back from our DC, Angie Fitch-Tillett and although the question regarding emptying of chemical toilets has not been dealt with; it is being looked into.
