Overstrand Life - Janet's Diaries

Saturday 21st May - W.I. Resolutions Meeting, Food Reviews and Waiting for Rain

Wedneday 25th May - Second Crab & Lobster Festival, Wine Making and Insects

Only one Diary entry this week, our youngest son and his partner will be joining us on Friday for the Bank Holiday, plus before they arrive, a visit from a former work colleague of mine.

The theme for the Cromer and Sheringham Crab & Lobster Festival this year was deckchairs. Just over 100 have been decorated and displayed, not only in the towns of Cromer and Sheringham but also in the Runtons, Northrepps, Fakenham and Woodbastwick (home of Woodfordes brewery). They are exhibited around the area, outside shops and businesses; a range of styles and themes, produced by local artists as well as employees of local businesses. There will be an opportunity to buy them, just turn up at the Cromer Pier forecourt on 28th August at 2 p.m. for the Grand Charity Auction. Sheringham conducted the bulk of the Festival events on Saturday, with Cromer hosting most of those on Sunday. The best of the weather was on Saturday, warm and sunny, shorts and t-shirts weather but on Sunday the winds whipped up with cloudy skies giving a chill to the day. We walked into Cromer on Sunday afternoon and watched the entrants for the Worlds Pier Crabbing Competition; majority ‘crabbed’ from the east side of the pier to avoid the winds. Along the promenade, the wind did not hamper other activities, which included street theatre, a climbing wall, craft stalls, clown and Punch & Judy plus cookery, lobster pot making and gansey jumper knitting demonstrations. I have put a selection of photographs on the Photo Gallery and these can be found towards the foot of the gallery page.
