Overstrand Life - Janet's Diaries

September 1st - 15th 2016

Sunday 4th September 2016 - Quiet, LItter, Writing and COAST Talk

The campsite closed on Wednesday and families with school children, staying in the village have now gone home. Of course, there are always visitors staying throughout the year, either in the hotel, pub, or one of the many holiday homes and the caravan site is open between March and October. Out of school holiday periods, visitors tend to pursue quieter activities and are less beach orientated; so once again Overstrand is back to its normal quiet self.

We have had some welcome rain over the past few days which is great for the garden. Some are now saying; it’s autumn but according to the astronomical calendar this starts on the 22nd September and looking at the long range weather forecast we have some more warm sunny days to enjoy over the next couple of weeks. Having said this, the sights and tastes of autumn are now very much evident in the hedgerows with hops, blackberries, sloes, hips and elderberries. The cereal crops have been harvested and combine harvesters cleaned and put away until next year. There is also a very definite nip in the air first thing, so much so that we are now wearing long trousers to avoid getting chilly knees, when we take Barney out for his morning walk.
